Purpose of the job

The European Union and the United Nations have launched the Spotlight Initiative (SI), a multi-year programme aimed at addressing all forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG), and harmful practices. The Spotlight Initiative (SI) in the Kyrgyz Republic will apply a comprehensive set of approaches based on social innovation, Human Rights, multi-sectoral inclusive response and survivor-centred principles to the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of interventions across the SI’s six Outcome Areas.

How can you make a difference?

Located in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the Communication Officer (Spotlight) is responsible forto convene an inter-agency communications task team consisting of communication specialists of the 5 Recipient United Nations Organization (RUNOs) and coordinate closely with these colleagues throughout implementation. The Communications Officer will be responsible for ensuring common visibility for all activities done under the SI in the Kyrgyz Republic with joint One UN (UN system) and EU credits, working closely with the Communications Specialist in RCO and the UNCT. In addition, the Communication Officer will assist in UNICEF’s planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating an advocacy and communication strategy to get children’s and women’s issues into the public domain, strengthening political will in support of UNICEF's mission and objectives in the country, and enhancing the organization’s credibility and brand.

The Communication Officer (Spotlight) will report directly to the UNICEF Communication Specialist and, for all purposes connected to the SI, the Communication Officer will work under the supervision of the SI Programme Coordinator.

Your key responsibilities will include:

As part of the work for the Spotlight Initiative (50% of the time):

  • Visibility and outreach activities.
  • Communication products.
  • Contribute to SI Kyrgyz Republic’s Programme Coordination Unit.
  • As part of the work for UNICEF communication activities (50% of the time):

  • Communication strategy.
  • Media relations.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.

  • A minimum ofthree yearsof relevant professional experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media.
  • Work experience in communication in UN Agencies or similar agencies will be considered a strong asset.

  • Fluency in English, Russian and Kyrgyz.
