Project Manager Instructional Designer

Background
The NRC Senior Management Group and the Board of Directors have decided to invest in people. This responds to a strategic choice to develop leadership across the organisation. NRC is shifting its approach from staff training to enabling learning and development for all staff. Our ambition is to provide timely, efficient, diverse and creative learning opportunities that support the quality of our operations. To this end, a new Learning & Development team has been set up.
Key responsibilities of the Instructional Designer in the L&D Unit
Planning and analysis
Conduct/ review needs assessments of targeted demographic, paying careful attention to likely study environment and comfort level with a variety of technologies
Design learning curriculum
Select appropriate methods to deliver content
Zoom-in on existing and emerging technologies that will form part of the final course
Design and structure
Define requirements in the organisation and structure of learning products
Design blended learning courses, using creative, innovative and evidence-based approaches and work with subject-matter experts to develop dynamic learning sessions and programs for in-person and virtual courses and sessions.
Establish NRC user experience and interactions with eLearning devices, to ensure that learners remain engaged and to reduce attrition rate as much as possible
Identify external providers (tech- and design team) where necessary, and manage outsourcing of eLearning course design
Collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and other stakeholders
Involve SME to curate the most relevant content to include
Suggest and devise modes of assessment and interaction with the learners to ensure optimum efficacy of eLearning products
Multimedia tools
- Advise the tech- and design team and SME about possibilities re:-aesthetics, placement, frequency of use of tools, content format, etc. to ensure a smooth learning experience for users
Implementation and management
Engage and maintain smooth relationships with all interested parties in the production of eLearning devices – e.g. L&D team at Global and Regional levels, SMEs, learners, tech- and design team
Implement decisions after thorough discussions
Communicate progress at key milestones in the project to all interested parties
Provide support and guidance to super users in NRC regional offices
Contribute to monitoring the successful implementation of newly launched eLearning products
Liaise with institutions and learning providers in the humanitarian sector (Humanitarian Leadership Academy, Humentum), to curate and negotiate access for NRC users to existing and relevant eLearning products
Job requirements and qualifications
Previous work experience in instructional design for minimum 5-7 years, ideally from a humanitarian context
In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
Lesson and curriculum planning skills
Strong project management experience and skills
Have experience with e-learning authoring programs and developing storyboards for e-tools, e-learning courses, and videos
Basic HTML and Flash programming knowledge
Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Ability to write effective copy, instructional design test, audio and video scripts
Ability to engage with and to coordinate a wide range of diverse actors with enmeshed roles (interpersonal communication and organisational skills)
MA degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar relevant fields
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
