Child protection is a key thematic area for Save the Children. We work across the globe in development and humanitarian settings to prevent and respond to violence against children. Through child rights programming based on the UN Convention on the rights of the child we work to strengthen child protection systems and case management, ensure safe schools and address violence against children, including SGBV, in homes, schools and communities.
We are now in a process of scaling up our child protection work and will strengthen our team with a Senior Adviser Child Protection with independent, challenging and awarding areas of responsibility. The adviser will be a key contributor to innovate and further develop Save the Children’s child protection work. He or she will provide thematic support and programmatic guidance to country offices and humanitarian responses through donor engagement and strategic planning. The position is placed in the Unit for Child Protection, Health and Nutrition and will collaborate closely with highly competent national and international colleagues within child protection, health and nutrition, education and other thematic areas.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Provide technical advice and mentoring of staff and partners in country offices to support quality interventions at country level.
- Lead on proposal development and support donor engagement including humanitarian innovation and use of technology-based approaches.
- Contribute to the global thematic development work in SC.
- Develop and improve child protection in our humanitarian work.
- Seek innovative and strategic ways of capacitating in-country technical teams and partners, including planning and delivering capacity development and trainings and facilitate shared learning of thematic programme work between countries.
- Provide oversight of program implementation from SC supported programmes, gather lessons learnt and support analysis to improve the impact of the programmes.
- Contribute to documentation and dissemination of knowledge.
- Ensure that child protection programmes are inclusive and gender sensitive, with a focus of reaching the most marginalized children.
- Support results measurement, analysis, documentation and reporting on child protection.
Education and experience:
- Minimum 5 years experience from working with child protection, child rights or related area in both development and humanitarian settings. Knowledge of Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action.
- Field experience is an asset.
- Academic qualifications at master’s level in a relevant discipline (extensive relevant experience may compensate for lack of academic qualifications).
- Excellent skills in proposal writing, programme design, monitoring, results documentation and reporting.
- Knowledge of the donor landscape for child protection.
- Experience with designing and delivering capacity building/mentoring and follow up of thematic staff in-country.
- Experience with promoting gender equality and inclusion of marginalized groups.
- Experience from use of technology-based interventions.
- Fluency in written and spoken English . Understanding Norwegian is an asset.
- Spanish, French and/or Arabic skills are an asset.
