Norwegian Church Aid can now offer a very exciting position within the Humanitarian Division in the Department for International Programmes. In this position, you will be a part of making a difference by contributing to the development of humanitarian WASH programmes across the organisation.

NCA's main programmes include Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Peacebuilding, working in both Humanitarian and development contexts to ensure no one is left behind. We are looking for a candidate that has solid experience within technical WASH and/or Public Health in a forever challenging environment.
In this position you will ensure that humanitarian WASH programs will be implemented timely and with quality and adhere to donor requirements and international standards, as well as ensure that cross cutting issues are mainstreamed (gender, inclusion, environment and climate change). The position is based in NCAs Head Quarters in Oslo.

Start date: As soon as possible

NBThis position requires travelling to country offices and field responses. This also include traveling to high-risk areas and travel on short notice.

Job description

  • Contribute to development and quality assurance of the WASH programme within the NCA Global Programme Framework.
  • Keep the organisation updated professionally on new trends and developments, including use of new technology, behaviour change models and approaches, climate resilience and environmental sustainability.
  • Contribute to policy and guidelines development within the WASH programme.
  • Contribute to integrated programming both within NCA’s thematic areas (WASH, GBV, Peacebuilding) and ways of working; humanitarian response, advocacy, and long-term development.
  • Provide humanitarian WASH technical advice and assistance, remotely and in country.
  • Actively engage and help shape broader sector strategies through influence and participation in relevant global coordination forums and opportunities for cooperation with relevant private sector (on national and international level).
  • Take the initiative in documenting lessons learned, best practices and case studies to shape in-country strategies and programme approaches and contribute to broader sector learning.
  • Working closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation team to put in place WASH sector M&E plan, ensuring this is linked to reporting requirements, and build the capacity of technical field staff in carrying out the work.
  • Oversee development and implementation of technical trainings that will improve the different components of WASH portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Bachelor or Master’s degree in the field of WASH, Public Health, or Environmental Health. Extensive employment experience can override need for tertiary education. Ideally looking for someone with public health background.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in developing, implementing, and managing humanitarian WASH programmes/projects.
  • Minimum 1 years of field experience of implementing humanitarian WASH responses.
  • Fluency in English, written and oral. French is strongly desirable.
  • Technical skills and experience in all aspects of WASH, throughout the humanitarian project cycle.
  • Solid knowledge in environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrated skills on information management.
  • Excellent skills in the use of Office 356 package and digital tools.
  • Experience with project management.

  • Good collaboration skills across teams, divisions, and departments and between head office and county offices.
  • Good interpersonal and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a potentially unstable security environment.
  • Culture and conflict sensitive.
