GBViE Senior Advisor - Specialization in MHPSS

Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) can now offer a very exciting position within the Humanitarian Division in the Department for International Programmes. In this position, you will support humanitarian responses by strengthening our MHPSS interventions within the Gender-based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE) programmes.

As our new GBViE Senior Advisor, an important part of your job will be to train, guide and support relevant staff at the different NCA country offices around the world, on MHPSS within GBViE programmes, but also strengthening MHPSS and GBV prevention, protection, and response in NCA’s partners’ humanitarian interventions. You will be an integral part of NCA's programmes on gender-based violence in conflict, post-conflict and humanitarian crisis. Your contribution will be a part of enhancing global promising practices and scalable psychological interventions for survivors of GBV that are integrated within an existing GBV response service. Through this work, you will strengthen supervisory capacities and structures within teams working directly with survivors with complex needs to support the delivery of individually and culturally tailored approaches and interventions.

This is a permanent position based in NCAs Headquarters in Oslo. The position also includes traveling between 90 to 120 days per year, pending on needs for shorter and longer term.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing technical support on GBViE programmes, specifically pertaining to MHPSS, non-specialized and specialized services under levels 2 to 4 of the IASC MHPSS pyramid.
  • Develop clear guidance and standards for MHPSS services consistent with international best practice and identify, share and adapt resources and materials.
  • Contribute to professional development of GBV programmes across the organisation, and keep the organisation updated professionally on new trends and developments in MHPSS, particularly relevant to the provision of level 2 and 4 within the IASC MHPSS aspect of programming.
  • Build capacity, mentor, and supervise relevant NCA staff and partners in how to conduct MHPSS specialized care, for survivors of GBV and persons at risk.
  • Develop tools and guidelines to strengthen MHPSS interventions.
  • Represent the organization effectively in key forums (Global and regional working groups, UN, and academic forum and other MHPSS related organizations) and build and maintain these networks.
  • Ensure that a trauma-informed, survivor-centered approach is applied to all GBV programming and services provided to survivors, including mental health, case management, legal assistance, and psychosocial support.

Qualifications

  • Mental health/therapy professional with MA or equivalent in psychology, clinical social work, nurse with specialization in psychiatry/psychology, therapist or similar.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of MHPSS within GBViE programmes.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in areas affected by conflict and / or humanitarian disasters.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, French and Arabic advantage.
  • If you have the correct technical background in psychology/clinical social worker/nurse but no experience in working internationally or humanitarian response, we are open to exploring the possibility of a trainee programme. This would require travel to 2 country offices for a three-month period. The length of the trainee programme would be one year, with extension of the contract being based on a performance review.
