Vacant temporary position: MEL and Capacity Building Adviser on the Brazil Program

Do you want to help us save the rainforest and strengthen the human rights of forest peoples? The Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) has a vacant position as an adviser in the Brazil Program. The adviser is responsible for monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) and capacity building on cross cutting issues in our work with civil society partners in Brazil. The position is temporary (12 months from December 2022) but might become permanent. The 100% position is placed in our Department for International Programmes.

The position is expected to strengthen our competence on planning, monitoring and evaluation at county level and to contribute to development of partner capacities and implementation of cross-cutting policies at country level. We use English and Portuguese as working languages. The position is based in Oslo, but extensive travel to Brazil must be expected.

We are looking for a person who can cooperate well with our partner organizations, the rest of the team and the organization. At the same time, you must be systematic and efficient and ready to take independent responsibility for your work.

Main tasks:

  • Support head of program in her responsibility for the team’s overall results management at country level.
  • Prepare and coordinate reporting and planning processes for country team towards donors/RFN in accordance with established processes.
  • Support the implementation of RFN’s cross-cutting policies and risk management in the country program.
  • Strategically support the country team in planning and designing evaluations for country team to provide for accountability and learning.
  • Plan and facilitate capacity-building and – sharing both internally and with local partners in line with approved priorities, plans and budgets.
  • As part of a community of practice contribute to further developing RFN’s systems, tools, and processes for MEL.

Necessary competencies and skills

  • Competency and experience on cross cutting issues, safeguarding, risk, and compliance, particularly gender and/or risk with proven ability to facilitate process related to these themes.
  • Understanding and experience with organisational learning and project management including the monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) cycle. Ability to facilitate workshops and give support on MEL.
  • Experience with work on institutional support of civil society actors in developing countries. Understanding of the international development and cooperation sector.
  • Proven training and facilitation skills: Able to transfer technical knowledge and skills with a pedagogical approach
  • Coordination and collaboration skills: Able to work with remote, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to provide team leader with quality assurance perspective on issues of relevance to the team and suggestions on how to improve results management at team level.

  • Problem-solver and willingness to provide assistance and support.
  • Able to gain confidence and maintain good relations with a broad network of partners
  • Able to travel in the field and work with partners when needed.
  • Effective and able to prioritize when needed.

Language and communication: excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Portuguese. Knowledge of Norwegian or additional rainforest country languages is an asset.
