Norway: Senior Adviser Child Protection

Child protection is a key thematic area for Save the Children. We work across the globe in development and humanitarian settings to prevent and respond to violence against children. Through child rights programming based on the UN Convention on the rights of the child we work to strengthen child protection systems, including case management and community-based child protection. We ensure safe schools and address violence against children, including SGBV, in homes, schools and communities.

We are now in a process of scaling up our child protection work and will strengthen our team with a Senior Adviser Child Protection with independent, challenging and rewarding areas of responsibility. The adviser will be a key contributor to further develop Save the Children’s child protection work. He or she will provide thematic support and programmatic guidance to country offices, especially for humanitarian responses, and contribute to donor engagement and strategic planning. The position is placed in the Section for Child Protection, Health and Nutrition and will collaborate closely with highly competent national and international colleagues within child protection, child rights, health and nutrition, education and other thematic areas.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Provide technical advice and mentoring of staff and partners in country offices to support quality interventions at country level, especially for humanitarian responses
  • Provide technical support to proposal development
  • Contribute to the global CP thematic development work in SC
  • Seek innovative and strategic ways of capacitating in-country technical teams and partners, including planning and delivering capacity development and trainings and facilitate shared learning of thematic programme work between countries
  • Ensure that child protection programmes are inclusive and gender sensitive/transformative with a focus of reaching the most marginalized children
  • Support results measurement, analysis, documentation and reporting on child protection

Education and experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience from working with child protection, preferably in humanitarian settings, including field experience from humanitarian responses
  • Knowledge of Minimum Standards for CP in Humanitarian Action, SGBV, CAAC, MRM, CAAFAG etc.
  • Academic qualifications at master’s level in a relevant discipline (extensive relevant experience may compensate for lack of academic qualifications)
  • Excellent skills in proposal writing, programme design, monitoring, results documentation and reporting
  • Knowledge of the donor landscape for child protection
  • Experience with designing and delivering capacity building/mentoring and follow up of thematic staff in-country
  • Experience with promoting gender equality and inclusion of marginalized groups
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Norwegian and French is desirable

This is a national position based in Oslo (no expat benefits). However, frequent and extensive travel in Save the Children’s operating areas is to be expected and shorter deployments may be required.
