NCA operates in a world that is rapidly changing. Since our founding in 1947, we have developed an understanding of who we are and what we do best. Our Global Strategy outlines two main strategic directions for NCA in the future, an increased focus on humanitarian response and a renewed emphasis on faith-based actors as agents of change within the wider civil society. We respond to emerging needs as well as meet the standards of international donors and ensure that implementation and reporting are done according to our obligations. In order to do so, our Finance Department at NCA includes 30 employees who manage over one billion NOK that are distributed through emergency and development projects in more than 28 countries.

As Internal Controller, you will have a central role in NCA as well as having a direct line to the General Secretary. You will be responsible for developing an effective, systematic and proactive anti-corruption work within the organization, while at the same time identifying, investigating, and resolving discovered cases. In order to succeed and thrive in the position, you will be adaptable, results oriented and comfortable with change. You are clear and concise and can build upon multiple initiatives across NCA. You work productively to meet deadlines, have an acute attention to detail, the ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks, a problem-solving attitude, and the ability to maintain positive relationships under difficult circumstances. NCA ensures compliance with generally recognized principles of accounting and internal auditing.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing, monitoring, and evaluating the organization's comprehensive risk management system within economic and procurement routines and applications.
  • Detecting, investigating, and resolving compliance issues abroad and at home and together with the senior management group, continually develop and plan internal control priorities.
  • Analyze, find solutions and/or implement change with the established systems to ensure compliance with policies, plans, procedures, laws, and regulations and establish whether NCA is in fact in compliance.
  • Responsible for establishing and strengthening NCA’s routines and procedures for financial compliance, from the Head office in Oslo, through our local country offices, to our partners abroad.

Qualifications

  • Experience from internal controls functions and deep knowledge and understanding of similar roles and responsibilities
  • MBA or equivalent but relevant experience may compensate for lack of formal education.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills are required. French skills are a considerable advantage.
  • Experience from public service and/or the NGO sector is an advantage.
  • International experience is an asset.

Personal qualities

  • Ability to work independently, analytically and structured, as well as being able to deliver according to set targets.
  • Solid collaborative skills that you can demonstrate and can be diplomatic when discussing compliance issues to other department heads in SMT.
  • Thrive in evolving and challenging environments as well as having personal integrity, authentic passion and a resilient spirit.
  • The position requires travelling, approx. 70-100 days per year, including conflict/high risk areas
  • Loyal to Norwegian Church Aid's Christian values and accept the Code of Conduct.
