Norway: Senior Adviser Disability Inclusion

Senior Adviser Disability Inclusion

We are looking for a Senior Adviser who can strengthen our work to reach the most deprived and marginalized children, and who can contribute to the inclusion of boys and girls living with disabilities. The Senior Adviser will work alongside the other advisers in the Child Rights Section to improve Save the Children’s advocacy and programmatic work on disability inclusion and promotion of the rights of children with disabilities.

The Senior Adviser will provide thematic support to Save the Children country offices with a focus on developing stronger partnerships with representatives of children with disabilities and their organisations. The role includes thematic development work at the global level, with the aim of improving our thematic guidance and coordination.

Responsibilities and tasks:

• Strategy development, design and innovation of inclusion work ensure that all programs are inclusive and disability oriented with a focus on reaching the most marginalized children
• Ensure that all programs are inclusive and disability-oriented with a focus on reaching the most marginalized children
• Support country offices to identify and establish partnerships with disabled people’s organisations (DPOs) and foster mutual empowering partnerships

• Provide systematic technical advice and mentoring of staff and partners in country offices to support high quality and inclusive interventions

• Work with COs to ensure that the assessments consider the needs of boys and girls with disabilities, through direct and meaningful consultations with the target Group

• Support quality documentation and reporting to monitor progress and learning in programs

• Lead the Inclusion Team in Save the Children Norway

• Participate in external thematic networks

• Support Disability focal points in the different sections in Save the Children Norway and facilitate knowledge and experience exchange as well as capacity strengthening on Inclusion

Qualifications, experience and skills:

• International experience working with disability inclusion and disabled people’s organisations
• Knowledge of relevant international legal instruments, international reporting and monitoring mechanism, governance and networks at national and local level
• Academic qualifications at master’s level in a relevant discipline. Lack of formal education requirement can be compensated by significant work experience
• Experience with programme design, monitoring, results documentation and reporting
• Fluency in written and spoken English. Skills in Norwegian, Spanish and/or French is an advantage
• Experience in designing and delivering training on disability inclusion, including strengthening the capacity of key stakeholders
• Willingness and availability for travel

The position is based in Save the Children Norway’s office in Oslo, but 6-10 weeks of travel per year is to be expected. Save the Children Norway staff has flexible working hours. Employees are asked to work 37.5 hours per week. When exceeding this they can take time off in leu. Terms and conditions will be agreed upon during the recruitment process.
